The ringing of my phone beside me startled me awake from my deep slumber. Exhausted from the surgery, I dozed off after I heard it was successful, desperately needing rest.
When I realized my phone wouldn't stop ringing, I groggily reached for the phone on the desk between my son and me.
Rubbing my eyes, I stared at the screen, half-expecting it to be Charlene calling. However, to my surprise, Kylan was on the line.
"For him to be unable to use the mind link, something bad must have happened!" Ash remarked, his voice filled with concern.
Ignoring Ash's comment, I answered the call. "Hello, Kylan."
"Your Highness," he replied promptly. Before I could say anything, he broke the news to me. "Something is happening in the city right now, involving Charlene."
My heart skipped a beat at the mention of Charlene. I sprang to my feet and grabbed the TV remote from the desk beside me, careful not to wake my son.
