The doctor came in with discharge papers and instructions for whiplash recovery: Rest, ice and pain medication if needed. Follow-up in a week.
"Your wife can drive you home." Doctor said. "No driving for 24 hours with the neck brace. And watch for delayed symptoms like headaches , dizziness, nausea. If anything worsens, come back immediately."
"I will." I said before Asher could respond.
I drove back home. His car was being towed. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes.
"Tired?" I asked.
"Yeah. Adrenaline crash." He opened one eye. "Did you come from home driving all the way here?"
"Yeah." I lied.
"Thank you for coming." He smiled.

I helped him up to the penthouse. He moved stiffly, neck brace restrictingmovement with bruise darkening on his cheek.
"Couch or bed?" I asked.
"Couch. Don't want to lie down yet." He settled onto the sofa and winced. "Fu*k. Everything hurts now that adrenaline's wearing off."
"I'll get ice and your pain medication."
