Chapter 19 - Second Lecture - Devil Ranks

"Now, had any of you opened his/her vein over the midnight?" Her voice rang in the entire classroom.

The entire class was silent; only a few people raised their hands. They were just five in number. When she saw this, she was a bit surprised.

Matt watched the five hands; he didn't raise his, planning to keep them a secret. As for how long the secret would be safe, he doesn't know.

"Tell me how many veins you have opened," she asked them.

Each of them opened just one vein, according to their explanation.

"For those that have opened a vein, you can try your best to open more veins before you start to absorb Originat into your body. After absorbing Originat, you step into the first step of Cultivation, Requiem Apprentice."

"After acquiring your Requiem, like I said, the more veins you open determines the strength of your Requiem and also the class that you will unlock."

"I know you are all confused about what the meaning of class is, it is related to your requiem, your path, and your inheritance—skills that come with it. When that time arrives, you will understand what I am talking about."

The student felt curious about the class related to Requiem, but it seems they would have to wait.

"We are all giving you a year for this. A month later, you would be given basic combat skills to train. Note that you have to open at least one vein to be able to use the combat skills"

"A year from now, you will undergo a combat assessment, and those that come back victorious will begin their Requiem Pairing," Teacher Elizabeth said.

Matt heard all of this, his face determined. One year from now, he would make sure that his name resounded in the entire academy.

"Now, today's topic is about devils, who are enemies of humanity. According to records, humanity has never been able to find the origin of the devils, but they are cruel creatures who dwell on slaughter, blood, and bones."

"A devil never allows a human to go scot-free. Destruction and ruins happen wherever they tread their feet." As she said this, Matt's thoughts wandered about the devil that was inside him. If not for the message that the devil dropped, he would have thought the scene he saw was fake.

This was a ticking bomb in him. He's now treading on the path of life and death.

Helplessness filled his heart because he couldn't say the fact that a devil was in him. If this reaches any person's ears, he will be killed, and if he's not, he will be turned into a laboratory rat.

His opening of thirteen veins would also be revealed; he knows his ending wouldn't be good—it's already late. He would just need to have enough strength to make sure he's safe.

"So as you know that human potential is determined by our talent, the devil also has this, but theirs is determined by their bloodline. Their bloodline is graded by level; they have the ordinary bloodline, king bloodline, monarch bloodline, emperor bloodline, and ancient bloodline."

"Ancient Bloodlines are rare, as they were all killed by our ancestors during ancient times. It took countless sacrifices from humanity. As for other ranks of bloodline, they are rampant; most of the devils that you see on the news are those of ordinary bloodlines who are used as cannon fodder, for example, the worm devil"

The entire class fell silent. Matt's thoughts were going rampant. He could remember the threatening aura that the worm devil had, but that was just an ordinary devil.

"Their power ranks are Devil Spawn, Devil Fiend, Devil Lord, Devil King, Devil Monarch, and Devil Emperor. As for Ancient Devils, like I said, they are extinct. I am sure you can see some similarities between their bloodline and rank, for ordinary devil bloodlines, their limit is Devil Lord, and the rest of the rank, you can see the relation between them," she continued,

Teacher Elizabeth looked at the children before sighing. Her sigh made the students curious. "But they can break the shackles of their bloodline by devouring human blood. An immense amount of blood is what they need, and what makes them fight humanity."

Her words made the students turn serious; they frowned, realizing the situation they were in.

"So if you see a devil, it's either you die or it dies," Teacher Elizabeth warned the students; they nodded.

When Matt heard all of this, he realized what his parents were fighting against, which made him clench his fists.

"Now let's go into details about the ability and specialty of devils. The Worm Devil has low combat power, but its regenerative speed is one of the best. Well, with enough strength, you can destroy them with a punch. Oh, also, for you to be able to kill a devil, they have a core; different devils have different cores. Destroy or seal the core to completely kill them"

The lecture continued….

Meanwhile, in an unknown hidden place, a research facility, dark and scary, one could see different human beings being researched.

What was shocking was the fact that there are some devil parts here, giving an eerie feeling.

An old scientist covered in blood, busy researching how things were going on.

"How's the experiment going?" The sudden male voice startled the scientist, who took a weapon to defend himself.

When he turned back quickly and saw the person, he calmed down. A masked man, his body hidden in the shadows.

The scientist took a deep breath, and shook his head. "The devil's genes seem unable to fuse with human genes; both lead to destruction, destroying each other."

A killing aura was released from the masked man, which caused the scientist to fall on his knees, shivering unconsciously.

"That's not what I brought you here for. Since all these years, if you want to keep your life, you better start showing results," the masked man commanded. The scientist knew that if he was not of use, he would be killed,

"I have good news. Specimen D6 has awakened," the doctor said meekly, his body still shivering.

When the masked man heard this, his killing aura disappeared, and he laughed out, a dark laugh, "Now that's good news; you did a good job."

He patted the scientist. "Expecting more good news from you," he said softly, his figure disappearing under the darkness.
