AURORA MOON
She awoke in the dark, heart pounding. Aurora scrambled to sit up, clutching the covers.
Fragments of her nightmare clung to her like smoke and she shook her head, as though that might disperse the fuzzy, lingering images that filled her with terror.
What happened?
Where was she?
"Aurora."
In the darkness, a small light beckoned. It was a lamp on the table next to the chair that Kellan occupied. He wasn't wearing a tie and his dress shirt was unbuttoned, revealing a sliver of muscled flesh. His hair looked like he'd run his fingers through it numerous times.
Smoke from his cigarette curled into the air. His dark gaze was fixated on her. He blew a final plume of smoke and stubbed out the cigarette. When he stood, Aurora saw his tie wrapped around his fist.
"Kellan?" she managed, her voice a hoarse whisper. "Are you okay?"
"Not really."
