Chapter 8 - 8: Mockery

Seraphina

After Alec stepped out, my eyes darted towards the entrance of the restaurant and I noticed the sign still showed that it was still closed, then I wondered if Alec's team had rented it out just for this meeting.

He was clearly loaded as hell, and I quickly sent a prayer to the heavens over the success of today's meeting.

As I stepped out of the restaurant as well, I took the left turn, choosing to just walk for a bit instead of rushing back to Blair's because I had nothing to do anyway. I was walking on the lanewalk when I stumbled to a stop at the unexpected sight before one, one which made my stomach twist with displeasure.

A few feet away from me was none other than Chris, one of Heathen's horrible friends.

Automatically, I tensed up especially on realizing that he wasn't alone. Another guy was walking beside him, who I remember used to hang out with Heathen and his friends once in a while.

"Seraphina! Looking edible as hell in this boring dress." He drawled as he stepped forward, making me grow even more uncomfortable. I never liked any of Heathen's friends and this is one of the reasons right here, the blatant lack of respect.

The reason I never liked any of Heathen's friends was because not only did they blatantly hit on me while knowing that I was married to their friend, they also did it right in front of Heathen but he never stops them. Instead, he laughs along with them whenever they make lewd jokes about me. Now, I realized he never cared because he never loved me, and his friends were undoubtedly aware of his true feelings for me this whole time.

"Hello, Chris," I forced the word out, not wanting to appear rude. He held out a hand which I accepted, but then he pulled me into his chest and clamped a hand on my lower back, making me tense and breathe through my mouth until the hug ended. My skin crawled when I stepped away and looked around, wishing I could get an excuse to bail out of this encounter right away.

"How are you?" His friend asked and I mumbled a response, then before I could come up with an excuse to run off, Chris was continuing in a leering voice as his gaze raked over me.

"I heard the news, sweetheart. Your darling husband divorced you, I'm so sorry." He breathed out but I knew he didn't feel sorry one bit.

"No need to apologize, I was happy to leave the marriage as well." I breathed out and he grinned, clearly not believing me.

"That's hard to believe, dear, cause everyone knows how much you love Heathen." He pointed out and I spluttered.

"Whatever feelings I had for him are long dead, Chris." I snapped while he rolled his eyes, then he reached out to caress my cheek, making my skin crawl again.

"If you're lonely, which you undoubtedly are, you can come to me, okay? I'll satisfy you and in return, I can even give you—" he was still speaking when I cut him off, feeling too appalled and insulted to think about being nice right now.

"Stop speaking to me like this, Chris." I shoved his hand off my cheek as I spoke and his eyes widened in shock.

I never used to take this tone on any of Heather's friends no matter how much they push me, because I respected them as my husband's friends and never wanted to anger any of them. But I wasn't married to Heathen anymore so I didn't have to be nice to them anymore.

"You're being rude and insulting. I never portrayed myself to you as someone interested in having anything to do with you, so stop." I breathed, my chest heaving.

After a few seconds, Chris and his friend guffawed hard.

"Stop trying to act like you're one hot shot when you're not. You should even be grateful that I'm doing you a favor by acting like I desire you. I don't. You're ugly and disgusting to look at, it's why your husband never loved you. Heathen used to tell us all about how you're even boring in the bedroom. The only reason I want to still hit is just so I could tick off hitting a vitiligo pussy off my bucket list."

Each word made my heart shatter even more, and I felt tears starting to well in my eyes, which I forcefully shoved down. No way would I let him see me cry.

"You fucking bastard." I gritted out, my voice embarrassingly thick with emotions.

"It's the truth. Your twin is everything you're not, and we all approve of Heathen kicking you out for her. My offer is still on the table, if you want to fuck, I'm open—-" he was still speaking when I walked past him, my eyes blurring out with some wayward tears.

I didn't bother responding to him because it was pointless, so I just kept walking, while trying not to trip and fall at the sound of them laughing behind me.

I was leaning against the counter in Blair's kitchen while she stirred the spaghetti boiling perfectly in the pot. I arrived here from the successful meeting about an hour ago, and I've managed to put that unexpected encounter with Chris behind my mind. He was the least of my worries right now after all. My only concerns now were of me getting a very satisfying revenge on those who had wronged me.

"He agreed to the deal." I revealed to my friend as I explained to her what my whole plan was and the outcome of my meeting this morning was about.

She instantly beamed as she pulled me into a tight hug, jumping around excitedly in a way that made me laugh and shake my head.

"This is great news, Sera! We should go celebrate at the club, then perhaps you could land another hot man…"

She was still speaking when I chuckled and rolled my eyes. "Absolutely not, Blair. I'm never doing that again." I told her and she pouted like I just broke her heart.

"And besides, can you believe that the same man from the club was the same man I met at the meeting?!" I then explained the whole coincidence to her.

Her mouth was on the ground from shock.

"Wait, what if he agreed to the deal just because of how great the fuck was?!" She demanded, her eyes gleaming but I snorted.

"That's unlikely. But he said I'd have to warm his bed throughout the duration…"

"See?!" Blair exclaimed and I sighed again just as she grasped my shoulders and shook it a little.

"This is a great start, Sera. Now, you just have to make him fall in love with you! He's loaded, isn't he? Then you should do this."

I laughed this time. "Alas, that's impossible. It's in his clauses. No falling in love, and I'm honestly not interested anyway. I just want revenge, that's all."

That evening, I was curled up beside a dozing Blair who wasn't attending the club tonight. We were watching a movie together when a call from an unknown number came in.

I hesitated for a moment before accepting the call.

"Hello, little wife." Alec's familiar husky voice filled up my ear and I hurriedly sat up just as my heartbeat accelerated.

"Mr. Hemsworth." I breathed out, suddenly feeling winded. Beside me, Blair wasn't dozing anymore, she was wide awake and listening in like a rat with big ears.

"How are you?" He asked and I flushed when Blair arched a brow at me. I tried to shove her away but she refused to budge.

"I- I'm fine, Mr. Hemsworth, and we aren't married yet."

"Yet." He echoed smoothly and as my stomach clenched, Blair had a salacious expression on this time.

"Um, did you need something?" I asked tentatively after a few seconds.

"Ah, of course. I called to ask you to accompany me to an event tonight." He revealed and I spluttered.

"T- tonight?!"

He hummed. "Yeah, I know this is very short notice, but I just got the plan to be fair. It's a party being hosted by my family, one that's gonna be getting a lot of media coverage. What better way to announce our engagement and the fact that I also run Zen than to do it in a buzzing party?"
