Chapter 13 - 13: Unexpected Call

Seraphina

I slept well that night, one of the best sleeps I've had since I got betrayed by my family. However, when I woke up the next morning, I was shocked to see my face plastered all over everywhere online on turning on my phone.

News of my engagement to Alec was on the front page of every corner, along with the news of Alec coming out as Zen's new owner.

I had expected to see my face on the internet, but I didn't expect it to be on this level. Every media coverage had my face and Alec's plastered on every corner. A loud breath left my throat and I shuddered, feeling a rush of panic briefly overwhelm me for a moment before I slowly calmed down, reminding myself that I had this under control and that no matter what opinion the public have of me, it won't be able to affect me.

When I went into my call log, my mouth fell open at the sight of over a hundred missed calls staring right back at me.

Heathen called about fifty times.

My mother called. My twin called. My father called as well, which showed that shit was now more serious now.

I let out a huff, rolling my eyes and wondering what they all want. Clearly they were all calling because of what they just saw online and a scoff left my mouth.

They could all go fuck themselves.

Choosing to ignore the calls, I moved around to begin my day, remembering that today was the day I was signing the contract and marriage certificate with Alec.

I was nervous about to get marriage to a total stranger, but at the same time, I was glad that I was doing this, because this is the way I was gonna get marriage on all those who betrayed me. That was what they deserved.

As I got ready, my family kept calling me over and over again until after having enough, I decided to accept Heathren's call to tell him not to call me ever again. After kicking me out and taking all what I worked for, how dare he call me again?

"Why are you calling me, Heathen?" I demanded as soon as he accepted the call. "You betrayed me, you threw me out, and you sent men to come threaten me, men who did some sick things to m—" I trailed off at the end of my sentence, feeling choked as hell and unable to breathe properly for a second.

"Did what?" Heathen barked. "What did they do to you?" He demanded sharply and I went still for a moment before scoffing.

"Why don't you ask them? And please don't call me again."

I breathed out into the phone and was about to end the call when he spoke.

"Care to explain what all that bullshit trending on the Internet this morning is?" He asked in the next moment and as his words dawned on me, a laugh bubbled in my throat.

"I don't understand… What's it to you?" I shot back, feeling extremely angry that he had the audacity to be calling me right now.

"Answer the question." He demanded harshly and I rolled my eyes in irritation.

"I don't have to tell you anything, Heathen. We're no longer together." I reminded him sharply. Speaking to him right now was reminding me of all what I went through while being married to him, all the horrible things that I accepted while being caged.

Never again.

"Whatever this is…. I hope you aren't forgetting the warning my boys left you some days ago, for your own good." He suddenly spoke.

"It sounds like you've grown some wings, which is none of my business, however, the secret of Alina not being the brain must never become public, you're aware, yes?" His voice wax harsh as he spoke and a chill rolled down my spine at the reminder of those guys who ganged up on me that night after I got kicked out by Heathen.

I swallowed emptily, pushing down the wave of anger that gripped me.

"Of course. I already said I wasn't gonna reveal that to anyone." I muttered, even though I had already revealed the truth to Alec, and I was still gonna reveal it to the public at the right time, once I'm certain I'd be protected.

"Good," he barked and I scoffed, hating him even more and wondering how I remained married to him for five years.

"Please don't call me again." I breathed out next.

"You mustn't get married to Alec." He barked out next, shocking me all over again. As I gaped in shock, he continued.

"I don't understand why you're suddenly moving like this, or how you even got to meet with that bastard. Or have you been in contact with him the whole time you were still in contact with me? Were you cheating on me, Serephina?!" His voice was sharp at the end of the sentence and I let out a shocked laugh, unable to believe my ears.

"You can't be serious, Heathen. How the hell would you accuse me of cheating? You think everyone are horrible cheaters like you?!"

He scoffed at that. "That's the only tangible explanation to this shinanigan."

"Well, I was faithful to you. Throughout our ridiculous marriage, I was faithful." I gritted out, feeling insulted to be accused of cheating.

"And now you've suddenly met up with Alec and somehow, he's about to marry you. Are you saying that's just a coincidence? It's barely been a week since we separated. How can you be so shameless?" He gritted out and I was too stunned to respond.

"You know what? This is definitely not even a real marriage anyway. That asshole hates me so it's probably why he's deceiving you and has convinced you to get married to him, because he somehow discovered that you were once married to me. And of course, gullible you already fell for him, isn't that right? Just know that someone like Alec can't ever like you, it's just an act. He has better taste than to settle for you."

I swallowed, hating that his words made me feel hurt, like a knife in my heart, even though Alec wasn't deceiving me in any way and our marriage was purely on paper.

"Goodbye, Heathen. Don't call me again." I breathed into the phone before abruptly ending the call, feeling annoyed as hell that I let the call last this long.

Forcing that entire conversation out of my mind and reminding myself that I was on the right path and that all my plans was already gradually falling into place, I went off to shower.

After getting dressed, I was stepping out of the house when I stumbled to a stop at the sight of Heathen of all people, standing right outside the car which was parked at the side of Blair's house.

Fuck.

What was he doing here?
