Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The Truth about the Battle of New York

It wasn't just Nick Fury and Black Widow; even Iron Man himself was surprised. Would his future self really do something so suicidal?

Was his future self really that highly principled?

That would truly be a resolve to die.

Iron Man pondered for a moment. If a nuclear bomb were launched right now, would he, like in the video, sacrifice his own life to save New York?

After some thought, Iron Man realized… he didn't know himself!

A hypothesis is always just a hypothesis.

A hypothetical situation and a real situation are two completely different things.

Unless one is truly in that position and has truly experienced various things in a real situation, no one can guarantee what they will do at that time.

However, seeing his future self truly determined to die to save New York, his self at that time must have been much more mature and steady than his current self.

And more deserving of the title Iron Man.

"But Stark, a nuclear bomb is not an ordinary bomb. Trying to take a nuclear bomb out of New York in this way is simply unrealistic."

"What's more, the video already said that the nuclear bomb would explode within a minute!"

Nick Fury's voice rang out beside him again, interrupting Iron Man's thoughts.

Iron Man nodded: "At the speed of the Iron Man suit, the nuclear bomb wouldn't be able to fly out of New York; it would explode midway, and New York would still not escape the nuclear crisis."

"'I know where to take it.' Where exactly would my future self send the nuclear bomb?"

Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Iron Man were all very curious about this. Everyone stared at the screen without blinking, wanting to see where Iron Man would send the nuclear bomb.

"Sir, do you need me to contact Miss Potts?"

On the screen.

Jarvis began to proactively ask for Iron Man's opinion.

Clearly, Jarvis, whose intelligence was no less than human IQ, judged from the current situation that Iron Man's chances of sacrifice were relatively high.

That's why he proactively brought up this suggestion.

"Contact her!"

Iron Man thought for a moment and said heavily.

Iron Man in front of the screen felt a surge of secret pleasure again. During the previous round of questions, the footage from 'Avengers: Endgame' had already shown that he and Pepper were very likely to become partners.

This current scene undoubtedly confirmed that point again.

However, reality is always unsatisfactory. At a critical moment of life and death, the future Iron Man wanted to contact the most important person to him, but he couldn't get through.

Because Pepper's attention was entirely focused on the globally watched Battle of New York.

"The streets of New York City have become a battlefield, and the army has arrived and is trying to control the situation."

"But clearly, they are no match."

On a flight, Pepper watched the news playing on TV, her face filled with solemnity and tension.

Beside her, her phone showed Iron Man calling, but at this moment, Pepper's attention was completely drawn to the news and she didn't notice it.

"I have to say, in my career, I've never seen anything like this."

"We don't know much about this response team yet, but we recognize Iron Man, billionaire Tony Stark."

Seeing this, Nick Fury's one eye showed a thoughtful expression. Could this response team in the news be the Avengers?

Nick Fury thought it was very possible.

Wasn't his original intention in forming the Avengers to deal with this kind of situation?

The news said that even the army was no match, and this war depended entirely on that response team.

And since that response team included Iron Man Tony Stark,

the others should also be of the same caliber as Tony Stark, not ordinary people.

Isn't that the Avengers?

His previous failure to intercept the nuclear-armed fighter jet and his immediate contact with Iron Man was also good corroboration.

Nick Fury couldn't help but feel a little excited. The Avengers plan had really succeeded!

In the future, he had indeed successfully formed this alliance, and it had played a crucial role at a critical juncture for humanity!

On the screen.

Iron Man continued to carry the nuclear bomb, flying. As he passed a street, he suddenly began to change the direction of the nuclear bomb.

He took the nuclear bomb and flew upwards.

And during this process, the figures of two people on the street flashed by in a fleeting glimpse.

One of them was wearing armor, a cape, and holding a hammer. One could tell at a glance that he was no ordinary person, because in such a battlefield, ordinary people wouldn't dress like that.

And beside that armored person stood another person, whom everyone was more familiar with.

"Sir, it's Captain America!"

Black Widow's gaze narrowed slightly as she said to Nick Fury.

Nick Fury nodded. Looking at the 'Caped Crusader' and Captain America, it was clear they had both been through a fierce battle.

The 'egghead' immediately understood. This Caped Crusader and Captain America were most likely also members of the Avengers.

"That hammer…" Iron Man looked at the hammer in the Caped Crusader's hand and found it very familiar.

He quickly recalled that the hammer, wasn't it the one Captain America used to smash Thanos in 'Avengers: Endgame'?

Why was it in someone else's hand now?

But due to lack of necessary information, Iron Man couldn't know the answer to this question.

Under everyone's gaze, Iron Man carried the nuclear bomb as it ascended, ascended, and finally, it actually flew into a portal similar to a spatial wormhole.

"So, I was going to send the nuclear bomb into this portal."

Iron Man in front of the screen suddenly understood, and so did Nick Fury and Black Widow.

At this moment, everyone finally understood what Iron Man meant by "I know where to take it."

But at the same time, a new question arose: how did a portal appear above New York City?

"This isn't Stark's way of intercepting the nuclear bomb, is it? Opening a spatial portal?" Black Widow gasped slightly.

"No, Stark didn't do this. 'I know where to take it' clearly indicates that this portal already existed."

Nick Fury corrected Black Widow's view, "And looking at the timeline in the footage, I don't believe Stark would have had such means at that time."

Nick Fury's words were quite reasonable. So, the question remained, who opened the portal?

Under everyone's gaze, Iron Man soon passed through that portal.

The scene on the other side of the portal appeared before everyone's eyes.

It was none other than the vast cosmic starry sky. In the boundless starry sky, an extremely massive mothership-like spacecraft was docked.

And around that spacecraft, countless bug-like warships were flying around.

A sense of an alien fleet immediately assailed them.

Nick Fury and Iron Man exchanged glances. It seemed their previous speculation was correct.

The Battle of New York was indeed a war against aliens!

The portal was clearly opened by the aliens to invade New York.
