Chapter 37 - Respect

If Muhlhauser Academy was doing everything in their power to make our lives miserable the exact opposite could be said about those from Papolov Academy. First the principal offered to purchase Xelo off of us, he meant it as a sign of respect despite Xelo protesting he will never be for sale. Then whenever we passed a group of students in Papolov Academy they would bow to us.

Our first matchup was with Auberdine Academy and their plant beast masters. We aligned in our formation before the start of the fight and right as it started I realized I forgot to do my new support spell that would cast all of my support spells. "Firmamentum Totalirous" as the announcer said Fight and my body shot forward five yards as I forgot about the blink spell.

The Auberdine team all sent their ranged attacks at me as I had popped forward and made myself a target for them. What shocked the crowd was that none of the attacks made it to me and I had realized I was out in the open. I just panicked and started firing arcane barrage at each of them. The combination of their attacks being blocked and then my arcane barrages hitting them exploding into their attack then subsequently took out all six of them before anyone on my team could engage.

"Well that is one way to do it!" Adam said with a slight grin on his face. He wanted to fight but also was shocked at what I just accomplished. Wispy did its normal thing with blocking the attacks but the fact that I shot off six attacks in quick succession in pure panic and hitting all of them was something even he didn't expect out of me.

"So should we just do that from now on?" Travis inquired.

"I can't imagine I will be able to do that again. Everyone kind of just saw that happen and will be expecting it." I pointed out, not wanting to rely strictly on me to take out the team.

The battle was so fast that once again the statues in the hallway for the fastest victory changed from a group of beast masters from over a century ago to ours. This time it was at Muhlhauser Academy and that is when I found out that there was a difference. Then I realized that Ghostrun and Muhlhauser had the only arenas for forever and that didn't sit well with me. I didn't know how it all worked but it felt like all of the academies should have one. I told myself the next time I got a chance to mention to one of the princes I would.

It seemed that our armor was no longer keeping our secret as we went to grab lunch and multiple students from other academies came up to congratulate us. The news about the two princesses being at Ghostrun Academy had spread like wildfire throughout the kingdom. Then to top it off the armor now signified we were that group as it was armor that only the royal family and guards owned due to the forger working only for the family.

We were sitting at a big enough table for others to join and we were shocked when a group from Papolov Academy came and sat down with us. They were the team that we had beaten to make it to the finals and we were confused that they wanted to come talk to us. The tank with the coconut spider introduced himself.

"I am George, this is Karl, Adrianne, Sam, Jolly, and Gin. We fought you guys last year and wanted to get to know you guys better. We felt we had you guys beat but we didn't know the power of your elemental wisp. How did you find an elemental wisp anyways?" George introduced the team and asked me a question right off the bat.

"Was a legacy egg passed down through the generations in my family. My father believes it to be over a thousand years old based on similar boxes found holding legacy eggs like ours." I replied as I didn't think I was giving out anything crazy. Maddy, who was sitting next to me, pinched my arm as if I shouldn't have said that.

"How did you learn all of the support spells?" Adrianne who had the black bark on his skin who was their support beast master.

"Wispy learns from interacting with different beasts and magicals items. A sceptre with seven different elemental gems imbued into the weapon unlocked a group of them for me. I have met a few different beasts that Wispy has interacted with and learned from the others." I replied still intrigued that I am the center of attention from this group from Papolov.

"Wispy also teaches the other beast as such as Wispy taught Maddy's faery a barrier spell utilizing her life magic instead of the arcane barrier that we produce." I informed them. The vampiric bat popped out of Gin and a black tree appeared on the shoulder of Adrianne both with eager looks on their faces.

I then informed them of the side effect to the process which didn't seem to cause any hesitation. Wispy appeared and read the situation correctly and connected with first the vampiric bat. We both groaned in pain as the head splitting headache was felt as the bat was not anything near a wisp to connect. Adrianne's eyes then went wide as he learned a new attack spell, "I just learned Blood Missile, I have to go and test this out!"

Adam looked at me like I was crazy for giving them a new spell to use against us but I hadn't informed them of what I had learned as Wispy explained it to me. Vampiric Shadows was the spell name and according to Wispy it would make shadows within a ten yard radius act as an energy drain to anything they touch that is an opponent.

Wispy then went to the black tree and there was much less pain but still a decent headache. I was also shocked to feel the headache being in a different part of my head. I wondered if that had something to do with the fact that I learned a defensive spell from the bat and now a support spell from the tree.

"Wow! I learned Dark Barrier, I need to practice this, it will come in handy!" Gin exclaimed. I still hadn't informed them of what I learned which didn't escape Sam's attention. Sam had the gargoyle beast and the gargoyle had presented himself crossing his arms staring at me. It was actually kind of comical to see the expression the gargoyle was currently displaying.

"What did you just learn?" Sam spoke with his eyes narrowing and his gargoyle following suit with its eyes narrowing in sync. I wasn't sure if I should share but then again it didn't really matter as I didn't need to explain them just state what I learned.

"Vampiric Shadows and Darkskin." I simply stated and left it at that. They all looked at me expecting me to continue to explain them but I didn't.

"Is that ancient wyvern really your team's transport?" Jolly, who had the wolverine beast interrupted the awkward silence.

"Xelo is my beast's ancestor so he protects his great grandchild as well as transport us when we need to go somewhere." Adam replied with a nonchalant attitude as if it was a normal thing. The group from Papolov all gasped at the realization that Adam's wyvern could one day be as big as Xelo sent shivers down their spines.

"Can I ask who gave you guys the obsidian armor?" George spoke finally after introducing the teams. Then it dawned on me that not everyone knew the girls sitting with us. I left it to them to say something which Abby in her usual quick demeanor similar to her lightning wolf snapped a response.

"You don't know who we are then?" With a tone of complete sarcasm I know I was shocked to see George's response of "Why would I know who you are? These two are unstoppable together, the rest of you are just riding their power."

Maddy flinched as I could see her in my peripheral and Abby turned a shade of red that was starting to turn purple as she was enraged by the comment. Adam realizing it was going bad quickly stepped in with quick thinking "You guys got a nice jump on us and it won't happen again. Despite you learning new spells you haven't seen all of our power as well. But if you're going to talk smack to my teammates you can go have lunch elsewhere."

"I didn't mean to offend" George put his hands up in surrender as he realized he said the wrong thing. "I only meant it as they are easily the two most powerful in your group and they must be the reason for the obsidian armor and they want to protect you two right?" Not sure if he dug a deeper hole or not with that response but Abby wanted to rip his head off.

"So you really don't know who the two of us are? If that is the case then it would make sense why you think that the armor is because of them. Our fathers are known by their first names, Austin and Tanner." Maddy with her usually soothing touch calmed the situation with her words and demeanor. The realization hit each of the Papolov students like a line of fire crackers going off one by one.

"Woah, you're the daughters of Prince Tanner and Prince Austin? Why didn't you go to Muhlhauser Academy like your fathers?" Suddenly George knew details I had no idea he would know yet he didn't know who they were just a moment ago. Abby and Maddy just nodded in affirmation to being the princesses but didn't respond to the Muhlhauser question.

"Wait so let me get this straight, these two are just two random students that happen to each have insane arcane beasts that aren't royalty. It is the two girls with common beasts that are the monarchs. How does that make sense?" George wasn't stopping his confusion from getting the better of him with each statement.

"How many lightning wolves have you ever seen before?" Abby interjected.

"I have an elemental wisp not an arcane wisp." I threw my two cents in.

George was dumbfounded as he actually couldn't name one other beast master alive with a lightning wolf. Then he had no idea what the difference was as he probably thought arcane and elementals meant the same thing. He didn't seem to be the brightest in the group but then again you wouldn't call Travis our brightest either. A personality trait that seemed to be common in the tank types of beast masters.

Technically Travis and Joey had common beasts which is what might have caused George to make the comment but even Maddy's life faery was quite rare overall with most faeries being earth and light. The overall interaction was weird to us as no team had come up to us like they had. The fact that they did make an effort gave each of us a level of respect for Papolov.
