"Just say what you have in mind already… though I doubt it would work on… his sort." Eve said, her voice dry and completely devoid of hope.
"Why do you say that?"
Eve sighed… a very long sigh.
"That man wants to keep punishing himself for heaven knows what. That is not something you can trick him out of, you see. Just let it be."
Candace grinned.
"I will admit one thing to you, Everetta. I know him better than you do - not just as a friend. And from such knowledge, I know how to reach him."
Eve blinked, struggling to keep her mouth from falling open.
What did she mean by that exactly? Not as friends? Then, as what?
"Candace? Is there something you haven't told me yet?"
Faint Colour stained Candace's cheeks. "You are changing the subject, Eve."
Everetta moved from the window sill and sat down beside Candace on the bed.
"Ignore him completely now that you have his attention."
