The morning started gray and overcast, a soft drizzle tapping against the windows.
I groaned softly from the warmth of the bed, Ethan's arm still draped around me. "Rainy days should come with warnings," I muttered, stretching lazily.
"Warnings?" he asked, still half asleep, voice husky.
"Yes! Like… 'Prepare for cuddles, lazy mornings, and irresistible teasing.'"
He chuckled, nuzzling his face into my hair. "I didn't see that coming in the forecast."
I laughed softly, the sound mingling with the gentle rain outside. "Figures."
Eventually, we got up, lingering over breakfast, stealing soft glances and touches. The drizzle outside made everything feel cozy, almost like the world had shrunk down to just us.
"You know," Ethan said, reaching for my hand across the table, "days like this make me realize how much I love the small moments with you. Just… being here, doing nothing, and still feeling like everything matters."
I squeezed his hand, smiling. "I feel the same. It's like the rain… it slows everything down so we can actually notice each other."
He leaned closer, brushing his lips lightly across my temple. "Exactly. And I want to notice you forever."
The morning passed in lazy comfort, and eventually, Ethan suggested we take a walk under the drizzle.
I raised an eyebrow. "Walk in the rain?"
He grinned. "Yes. It'll be fun. I promise."
I hesitated, but there was that mischievous glint in his eyes, the one that always made me cave.
We grabbed an umbrella and stepped outside. The rain was light, misting our faces as we strolled down the quiet streets.
Ethan's hand found mine almost instantly, fingers entwining naturally. I felt a rush of warmth through the cool, damp air.
"You know," he said, lowering his voice, "holding your hand like this… I could do it forever."
I laughed softly. "You're full of clichés today."
"Maybe," he admitted, "but I mean every word."
We walked in silence for a while, letting the gentle rhythm of the rain and the occasional splash of passing cars frame our small world.
Eventually, we reached the small park by the riverside, the paths glistening with rainwater. Ethan stopped suddenly, turning toward me with an intensity in his gaze that made my chest flutter.
"Lara," he whispered, brushing a wet curl from my face, "there's something I haven't told you yet. Something I need you to know."
I tilted my head, heart racing. "What is it?"
He swallowed, a brief hesitation flashing across his face. "I… I want all of this with you. Not just the fun moments, the playful teasing, or the kisses. I want it all. Every day, every laugh, every fight, every quiet moment… I want it with you. Forever."
My chest tightened, and I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes. "Ethan…"
He cupped my face gently, eyes searching mine. "I love you, Lara. Completely. And I don't want to hide it anymore. Not from you, not from anyone."
I felt my lips tremble as I whispered, "I love you too. I think I've been waiting for you to say that."
He grinned softly, brushing a gentle kiss across my lips, slow and deliberate, the rain creating a soft soundtrack around us.
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur of stolen kisses, laughter, and soft touches. We ran through puddles, Ethan spinning me around, our laughter echoing in the misty air.
Later, we returned home, soaked but glowing. Maya was sitting on the couch, a small towel in hand, shaking her head at us.
"You two are ridiculous," she said, though the corners of her lips twitched in a reluctant smile.
"Exactly," Ethan said, pulling me close. "And happy. That's the important part."
Maya sighed, settling next to us. "I guess… I'm happy for you both. But I still don't want to clean up your messes."
I laughed, leaning into Ethan, feeling the warmth of his embrace. "Deal. But you can't complain about the happiness, Maya."
As the evening fell and the rain continued outside, Ethan held me close, whispering, "No matter what happens, Lara… I promise I'll always be here. Just you and me."
I rested my head against his chest, closing my eyes, heart full.
For the first time, I felt completely, undeniably safe, loved, and happy.
And I knew… this was forever.
