Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Aftertaste

Ada Wong, standing to the side, felt a hint of embarrassment. What had come over her just now?

Seeing Asa back as he shielded her, her emotions had stirred, and she had impulsively kissed him.

Surprisingly, Ada Wong didn't feel much regret. When her rosy lips pressed against Asa cheek, she felt it wasn't a bad sensation.

Watching Asa stunned expression, the agent felt a surge of triumph.

This boy was actually quite cute.

For a moment, the atmosphere between the two fell into silence.

A moment later, without a word, the two opened fire on Lisa.

"Bang, bang, bang!"

"Thud!"

Lisa crashed to the ground.

Lisa: ( ⊙ ﹏ ⊙ ) db

The two knocked Lisa down once again.

The plan had changed. Originally, he had intended to take Lisa to open the stone coffin after Ada Wong headed to the underground laboratory, hoping to diminish Lisa's aggression.

After clearing out the monsters in the Arklay Laboratory, he would find time to research how to restore Lisa to normal.

After knocking Lisa down, the two had intended to take the elevator down, but to their surprise, the elevator made a sound and headed down to the underground laboratory on its own.

Asa and Ada exchanged a look and silently raised their guns, remaining vigilant.

A moment later, a group of five people, some standing and some slumped, emerged from the elevator coming from the underground laboratory.

Upon seeing the five of them, Asa and Ada immediately recognized that the five men of varying heights and builds were the protagonists of this trip: the U.B.C.S. Delta Team.

When Mikhail and his team saw Asa, they were startled at first and instinctively raised their guns. Then, Mikhail recognized that Asa and Ada were the researcher and the agent Karen had mentioned over the radio, and he signaled his remaining teammates with his left hand to lower their weapons.

He stepped forward and said directly:

"Are you two the ones Karen mentioned? There is a freak created by a virus in the underground laboratory; it's best not to go down there right now."

"The freak in the laboratory, a Tyrant? I'm afraid that won't work."

Asa mused and continued:

"The Tyrant possesses a certain level of intelligence; it is capable of using the elevator to move between floors."

Mikhail and his team found it hard to believe. The reanimated corpses they had encountered along the way only retained their instinct to attack and certainly didn't seem capable of communication; they subconsciously assumed that the freak was just like the zombies.

Mikhail exchanged a look with his teammates and said:

"Then let's leave quickly. That monster is too terrifying; bullets fired at it cause absolutely no damage."

Carlos, who was nearby, helped up Deshawn. In the underground laboratory, Deshawn had been slapped directly against the wall by the Tyrant.

Lacking the Steel Back talent, Deshawn's ribs had broken on the spot, and now he found it extremely difficult to even stand up and walk.

Going back was out of the question. Wesker was still in the laboratory, and as a transmigrator, one could not forget the fundamental skill of rooting out the problem entirely.

Otherwise, he would be mocked by his peers.

Asa turned his gaze to the silent Ada Wong and asked:

"Ada, what is your opinion?"

"I must obtain the mission objective, Asa. You should understand."

With the Delta Squad present, Ada Wong didn't speak too plainly. The other side had strength in numbers, and she and Asa might not be able to win a fight.

"Then I'm sorry, but we have to go down there."

"What? Are you crazy?"

A woman and a boy going up against a monster that bullets couldn't kill—Mikhail thought they were absolutely insane.

This boy had saved Lawrence and Karen, so Mikhail naturally couldn't let them throw their lives away in vain. He immediately tried to dissuade them, telling the two the truth about how the Umbrella Corporation had sent them to retrieve data.

In reality, they were nothing more than pawns to test B.O.W. combat data. The task the company demanded of retrieving the data wasn't worth doing!

They were preparing to return directly to the mansion and, after regrouping with Karen and Lawrence, find a way to leave from the residential area.

"And after that, what are your plans?"

Asa asked the key question. Aside from Carlos, he didn't know much about the personalities of the others, so this was a good opportunity to ask about their future plans.

The squad leader, Mikhail, said firmly:

"We have decided to make the Umbrella Corporation's evil deeds public. We absolutely cannot let the Umbrella Corporation continue to use the lives of innocent people for experiments!"

"Very good!"

Asa praised,

"I have a friend at the Raccoon City Police Department who already released evidence to the media a month ago that Umbrella Corporation was using humans for experiments. Once you get out, you can look for her."

"Her?"

Ada Wong keenly sensed that the 'her' Asa mentioned had a special relationship with him. Watching Asa write a name on a slip of paper, Ada Wong silently memorized it.

"Jill Valentine."

"Are you really going underground?"

Mikhail took the slip of paper, still wanting to dissuade Asa from leaving.

It seemed he had to show some real ability.

Asa took out a syringe and gave Deshawn an injection.

"Hey, my chest itches? Am I healed?"

Deshawn, who had been half-dead from being thrown by the Tyrant, touched his chest and felt that there was no longer any pain in his broken ribs.

"Go. Find that person; she will help you."

...

"Ding."

The elevator was descending.

The Delta Squad ultimately chose to leave, while Asa and Ada took the elevator down to the underground laboratory.

It was quiet all around, and there wasn't a soul in sight.

The Tyrant that Mikhail had mentioned was supposedly chasing them, but Asa saw no sign of it.

"Maybe it felt it was too stuffy in here and went out for some fresh air?"

While cracking a boring joke, Asa took out the Comrades Hammer.

"Be careful, the Tyrant might be even more powerful than Lisa."

Ada Wong held the Chicago Typewriter that Asa had found from who knows where, walking cautiously through the corridor.

She was quite bold, too; she had broken into the Arklay Laboratory alone with only a small pistol.

Asa had no choice but to give Ada Wong a submachine gun, which was a reward he had just unlocked from Ada Wong's favorability.

It was a case of taking from the people and giving back to the people.

Just as the two were cautiously exploring the laboratory, in the research center on the B1 level, after some exploration, Ada Wong disappointedly stated something.

"The situation is not good. The laboratory's system has been hacked and locked; the data cannot be retrieved."

That was only natural; the culprit behind the lockdown of the entire underground laboratory was currently wandering around right in front of Ada Wong.

"Then won't you be unable to complete the Investigation Bureau's mission? In such a situation, is it usually direct termination or a deduction of performance bonuses?"

With no hope of obtaining the data, Ada Wong felt much more relaxed.

This way, she had a reason to explain to her employer: it wasn't that she didn't want to take it, but that it was impossible to retrieve.

Since she hadn't been informed beforehand, morality was on Ada Wong's side.

"The best outcome is that the bonus is gone; the worst is that there won't be opportunities for field work in the future, and it will be hard for us to meet, boy."

In a pleasant mood, Ada Wong began to joke with Asa.
