They both stared at him, dumbfounded. The room was dead silent until one of the asked "H-how? When? what?"
"I got a better job that pays more and it will be good for us,; I had to take it" their dad said sitting down facing them both has they both stared at him.
"What about Eva?" Aiden asked dropping the a plate
His countenance dropped, slowing twisting into a saddened expression "She will have to learn how to live with your mom and she could come over during the holidays if she likes. Besides, we still have about a month here before we leave. You can still" her dad said nonchalantly, happy about his new job.
Ethan just sighed and asked "Are you going to tell Eva, you know, the exact reason why mom doesn't love her?"
"Yeah, are we going to leave her in complete control of a woman who doesn't love her?" Aiden asked
"I know your mom would change, she is not heartless and she just needs to learn to love Eva. J-just don't tell her, at least not yet" her father said has he left to his room. Aiden and Ethan just stared at each other before proceeding to continue what they were doing before.
Aiden and Ethan weren't particularly close growing up. It was the love they both shared for their sister that bought them together… and now that she was no longer going to be with them like she used to, things turned completely cold between them at home and very soon they won't be in the same town.
The sun rose once again shining brightly through each windows all over the city
Eva woke up excited, knowing she had planned the day ahead of her; a walk to school with here brothers, her new class, to possibly make a new friend and then a nice lunch with Dad
Eva got up and hurried, going to the to quickly start the day, it was a small schedule she would love to cherish for life and it went on like that for a long while.
One fateful morning, Eva came downstairs, responding to her mother's call her down. "you called, mother." "Yes, in fact I did. You'll be changing schools." She dropped the bombshell, not looking away from the nail job she was giving herself and leaving Eva in a state of shock. She was to now attend the same Academy as Luke and Lizzy
Eva stared for a moment before bursting into laughter. Her mom kept looking at her with no emotion. She asked, hiding her frustration and rage "What's so funny? "Honestly, I'm not so sure anymore. I'm stuck between the fact that you thought I'd listen or that you still think I'm going to let you walk all over me" Eva said whilst trying to hold back her laugh.
"well I'll need someone to keep an eye on you. You seem to have… grown wings." she said blowing the nail polish dry.
"Now, you're just being unbelievable; I have brothers at my school, mom" Eva stated, her patience reaching its limits.
"Oh, they didn't tell you? Hmm?" her mom said with a condescending smirk. Eva still stared at her with a hint of confusion and annoyance.
"Your father got a new job in another state and they'd be leaving soon. Sorry, did I say soon? I think they were to leave tonight… I guess they didn't tell you so you won't be hurt" her mom added, her voice laced with contempt
Eva was confused and shocked, not hearing a word her mother was saying. she asked herself if they would really leave without telling her? Even if they did, Aiden would tell her, right? Or could it be she is lying to get Eva to willingly change schools. but if she wanted to do that wouldn't she have done that a long time ago?
Eva didn't know what to believe. She chose to wait for her brother hopefully she would prove her mom wrong.
Eva stood at the door, waiting. She's was supposed to be a lunch with dad, like always. She waited for hours and hours until Luke and Lizzy came home but she still refused to leave there.
It was late. A few hours to midnight to be precise. Eva lay out a heavy and tired sigh as it dawned on her, finally believing that her brothers were truly gone.
Her mom who was watching the whole time, picked her up from the ground to the table and dropped food in front of her. Her mother let out a soft sigh, her maternal instincts betraying her resolve to despise Eva.
"I know you don't like me and you know I don't like you, but if you don't eat you won't have the energy to keep hating me. Don't eat because I asked you too, at least eat so you can keep hating me" Eva mom said and left for her bedroom.
Eva just sat there staring at her food and wondered "why does the world hate me being happy?". She wondered why every time something she loved came her way, it always left… one way or another, when she needed it most. She listened to everything her mom said but she just couldn't hate anyone or anything. This feeling she felt it was familiar; that numbness in her heart, like she was further losing her emotions.
She picked up her spoon and started eating. She had already lost her appetite but she wanted something to do other than think. When she finished, she took her plate to the kitchen, immediately washed it and went to her room.
It was morning, the usual knock on the door signaling her it was time to get up.
She reluctantly got up from bed, her feet dragging along the floor boards. She got ready and came down the stairs, Luke and Lizzy were surprised to see her in the state she was.
Naturally, she would have left before then or they would leave before her but now she was eating breakfast with them
"Are you feeling well new sissy? you don't like sitting with us on the table?" Lizzy spoke in a curious voice
As much has Eva wanted to remain quiet, this was Lizzy speaking; she couldn't just ignore her. A slightly smile slowly crept on her face and she spoke
"Well I was thinking why don't we start afresh, we'll be attending the same school, isn't that right" Eva said flashing an awkward smile at her before facing her food again.
"The school bus has arrived" Eva's mom said followed by a horn
Luke picked up his bag and that of his sister and headed to the bus, Eva walked sluggishly into the bus to. All the students were too busy chatting with each other to pay any attention the fact that there was a new student amongst them.
Eva just walked all the way to the back of the bus we're a girl was sitting and just sat quietly
The girl glanced at her, Eva could feel eyes on her as she turned to the girl who now seemed to be sizing her up.
"Is there a problem?" Eva asked
The girl gasped, leaving a shocked expression on her face and suddenly, she shouted "Oh my God"
