Chapter 34: The Touch (2)
SERAPHINA
I remembered—this was Draven's favorite game. He'd said it once in council, laughing about how he loved watching his enemies run, knowing they'd never escape. Knowing he'd catch them eventually.
And I hated being the mouse. Hated being the prey.
But I was closer to the door now. He could keep playing his sick game, but I was almost there. Almost free.
I was about to grab it, about to rip it open and run—
But I got flung backward against the hard stone wall with brutal force.
It happened so fast, I didn't even see him move. Like he'd teleported. Like he'd been playing with me the entire time and decided the game was over.
I gasped hard, all the air knocked out of my lungs. My head had slammed against the wall, and everything went fuzzy. Stars burst in my vision. I felt weak, disoriented. My eyes went blurry as I tried to focus on the massive form standing in front of me.
Draven's wolf.
Up close, he was even more terrifying.
