Landing back at the academy courtyard created quite the scene. Most beast masters have never seen a full grown wyvern at a distance nonetheless landing next to them. What I hadn't even thought about till we were in the process of landing was the fact that we were riding a massive wyvern that hadn't been seen in hundreds of years.
Hovering just off of the ground and noticing the amount of students approaching Xelo decided to introduce himself. "I am Xelo, the first of the arcane wyverns. Dante, my great grandchild, has attended your fine academy for the last year. I wish to accompany my grandchild and proceed as the academy's official mascot." With that Xelo gave out a great roar and fired a massive arcane flame out of his maw into the air in a great display of power.
Mr G came running out of the main building as he didn't want to miss out on all of the commotion. He had seen the gryphons and the massive wyvern land and was making his way to us. Once he finally was in range to properly communicate with us Xelo finally decided to land and let us off of his back. I realized then that Maddy was blushing being the complete center of attention at the moment.
I helped her get off of Xelo's back and proceeded to give the beast a great birth to interact with others. Mr G was the first to finally speak "Xelo! It is an honor to meet you, did you say the first of the arcane wyvern? And you want to be our mascot?" The massive beast gave a simple nod of recognition to which Mr G responded with "Well of course, who would say no to you in the first place!"
"Good, where can I create a nest to sleep? Are there any unused buildings? Or do you have one of those spells that make something crazy large inside a small container?" Xelo asked a rapid fire set of questions at the principal who gladly answered each as others were simply walking up and petting the newest mascot of Ghostrun Academy.
Miss Valentina the academy's fashion professor spoke up "Excuse me um Mr Xelo, do you mind if I create our academy's logo onto a set of armor that can both protect you and display you as our mascot?" Which Xelo gave out a great noise that sounded similar to someone pondering an idea.
"Is it Team Arcanum's logo?" Xelo inquired.
Miss Valentina gave the most confused look I think I have ever seen on someone's face, she was into fashion meaning she had no idea who in the world team arcanum could even be. It was as if Xelo had spoken in a completely different language and now the lady's brain was broken trying to register a response. "Oh, is that an arena team? I can add that to the armor as well if that works for you?"
"I would be honored to adorn your armor." Xelo proclaimed.
Mr G had run off after discussing the living arrangements for the new mascot of Ghostrun Academy. A huge smile was on his face as he hurried off to the castle's builders. He couldn't wait till the annual principal meeting riding a great wyvern as the new mascot of the academy's duties will be to guard the principal on excursions. The ideas going through his head were endless as he couldn't believe his luck.
The students all met Xelo petting the massive beast and Xelo laid calmly on his belly allowing everyone to come meet him. He started to learn their names and I was shocked to know that he had a photographic memory so once you introduced yourself he knew your name. As the school's mascot he wanted to know all of the students and faculty so Xelo spent all day meeting anyone who would come up to him.
Dinner time came and multiple students offered to bring Xelo food which at first he agreed but when the offers kept coming he had to start politely declining as there were many students who had already offered. The next thing he knew he had all sorts of different offerings of meals in front of him all portioned for a human not a dragon.
When I came out from dinner with Adam we noticed that there were nearly a hundred meals on the ground around Xelo uneaten. Which I walked up to the closest and offered to feed it to Xelo if he wanted to try it out. The first one I simply tossed the food onto his tongue which he swallowed and gave an instant sound of gratification. Adam grabbed one and we both put two meals worth on his tongue which Xelo ingested with a bigger appreciative response.
It took us several minutes but by the time we got through them all Xelo was actually sated. He had never been offered mana enriched food the way our meals were prepared and he was shocked to find them more enjoyable than even the rare delicacies he has found through the ages of living. He was also shocked at how organized and civilized we were compared to the last time he was free several hundred years ago.
Mr G came back to us as we were finishing the last of the meals to give to Xelo. "We have arranged for the western tower which hasn't been used in the last century to be renovated to your likings. The entrance is for you only so fly on up and you can enter through the spire, it will be visible once you arrive at it."
Xelo flew up to the tower that would become his new nest and I could only see a gigantic wyvern appear to crash into the tower but apparently it just went into its new home. Several minutes passed and Xelo appeared back out of the spire with his wing outstretched as if he had been flying through the walls. He flew back to us as we hadn't moved from where we were.
"Now tell me what we know of Travis Finch and Joey Sho?" Xelo announced as he landed. Suddenly the whole school's mascot seemed more like a cover. Mr G clenched up and his hand started to grab his right pant leg, signifying he was super nervous that this ancient wyvern just pointed out a glaring issue the academy was facing.
"Well until you landed I was under the impression that I had six individuals going to rescue them. Now I am told that it is you who has used that to get our attention? So I am back to square one of not having any idea why they haven't shown up for school as they were last seen getting on the train that should have delivered them here with the rest of the students." Mr G opened up to us.
"Be sure to include me when we go rescue the two as they are needed for Team Arcanum to continue to dominate." Xelo proclaimed, causing Mr G to stutter, not correlating why the wyvern just mentioned an arena team.
