"Baby! Hiding behind your precious armor. Did daddy give you that armor?" One of the boys taunted us. I found it quite ironic to call us babies when it takes ten of them to finally approach us.
"You mean how you only comment from a distance unless there are ten of you?" I replied which Adam gave a chuckle. The ten boys all frowned.
"Who are you anyways? You his body guard? They only let Adam out if his bodyguard is with him?" The group bombarded me with questions that I answered none of them as none of them garnered enough respect to get my answer.
"Team Arcanum, have you heard of them? Adam is our leader, I am the support, Wispy here won't let any of you live if you attack us." I replied figuring this group of kids knew of Adam's sixes team from the tournament as I was pretty positive I had seen all of them either in the arena on Muhlhauser's team like Justin or they were in attendance watching closely. My armor being as distinctive as it reminded them of who I was and the circle that had been forming started to crumble.
Multiple of the boys started to back off, some lifting their hands in the air in defeat as the realization of who the two of us were set in. None of them had any weapons or gear, they planned to jump us with their beasts expecting us to be without our own armor. They hadn't even seen the fact that we had our weapons which was the final straw we were about to show before attacking if needed.
In truth both of us just wanted to relax in the water. Now that wasn't going to happen which meant that we had to leave the pond. Both of us kept our armor on till we had walked most of the way back to Adam's house. Seeing that we were about back Adam stopped and lowered his armor after sweeping the area to make sure they didn't follow us.
Amanda noticed the fact that we were back so quickly and tried to make fun of her little brother, "Girls kicked you out of the pond already! I knew you were too immature to be around girls in bikinis!" Adam just glared at his sister as I thought it was kinda funny. I knew she had no idea that her little brother was basically dating a future heir to the throne, but not my place to say it.
"The Kimbals hold onto grudges for too long." Adam retorted finally as we walked up to his room to get changed out of our swim suit and into casual clothes. Amanda gave a knowing nod as she had heard all about Adam's trouble with the neighbors and she wasn't going to touch that subject with a ten foot pole.
"Speaking of them, I haven't seen Devin all year. Did he leave and go to Muhlhauser?' I inquired just realizing I hadn't seen him this year. Adam shrugged his shoulders as he didn't appear to want to even speak about them more than he already had to when he responded to his sister.
The next morning Adam and I were going for our daily run before our flight back to school. Once again Devin and Justin thought that they could get the upper hand on us. We had gone on the same run each day so they knew our route if they had paid any attention and they sprung their trap right near the end of our run when we would be most tired.
This time it was only six of them but they still felt they had the upper hand. The spear that protruded out at the last moment was not slick or hidden or tricky at all. Adam told me later he could have blinked but it felt like a waste of energy. He simply jumped over the spear and then came to a stop turning around to see Justin with his spear. Devin and four other boys came out from their hiding spots with two of those four now being behind us.
We both could have put our armor on but we decided to see how this would go before quickly summoning it if needed. The six of them brought out their pets to surround us even more but still Adam didn't budge or pull out his armor so I waited as well. I was actually hoping that since we weren't in the arena we could end this issue once and for all and blame it on the wildlife even though there didn't seem to be any beasts nearby.
"How many times do we have to kick your ass before you just leave us alone? When and at what time have I attacked you guys? I have only defended myself from you guys attacking me so if you attack again it will be on you the consequences. We will not hold back and the arena isn't here to save you so walk away now." Adam's voice was more of a somber tone to where he resented having to say what he said. I could see his fists shaking as I knew he was ready to explode on them if they actually attacked us.
Not that it was anything that we did but suddenly the six boys and beasts gasped as the sun was blotted out. A dark shadow was cast on us as a great wyvern descended from above causing them to scream and start to run away. Devin was the first to run which told me he was no longer going to Ghostrun Academy as he didn't recognize our new mascot.
"Adam and Jordan I could feel your stress, do you need me to eat these cowards trying to surround you?" Xelo belched out as he landed just behind Adam and myself in between the two that had showed up behind us as they were now running at full speed away from us. Xelo then sent out a guttural roar and an arcane flame erupted twenty plus yards out of his maw.
We both hopped onto the large wyvern and took off for the Academy. I was shocked that he found us but he said he could feel our stress so I inquired as we flew to our destination. "I fused with Wispy, I will always know when you are stressed" Xelo informed us.
I asked Wispy about this connection that Xelo was referring to. Wispy didn't say anything for a long time then Xelo commented. 'I have blocked his ability to connect fully with me because you both are two small. Grow and become more powerful and when you are platinum you can link up with me. I will however be serving my grandchild more than you so if Adam wants me I will become his when he is powerful enough.'
The flight was shorter than the previous and we realized that Xelo was much faster at flying than the gyphons. I struggled with trying to figure out how to tell Adam what I was just told but I also figured it wasn't my place to say anything so I kept it to myself. The thought of Dante growing larger and then Xelo working together with Adam's growing abilities and skills was an awesome thought.
