Survival Log for the world I have ended up in. For the record my Earth name is Ellery Kingston. My ID number is 888-3 for all Expeditionary Forces of Earth. As of July 18 of 2096 I have successfully entered a new world. As per the rules of the EFE I am writing daily logs based on my experiences and observations in this new world. With the introduction to my logs done I shall start.
Survival Log Day Five
I got up groggily in the morning and had a nice hot breakfast. The combat the previous day hadn't been very draining but I'd been in my toes the entire time watching for the traps or an arrow covered in poison. I'd been incredibly anxious as well as I didn't know if the security could be shut off and I definitely didn't want to fight any centurions. I packed up my gear and left to organize the mercenaries of the excavation site as I was planning to leave after getting my gear enchanted. A few hours after the sun had risen I got an annoyed Calcelmo to enchant my stuff. I got fortify health on my body armor, fortify sneak on my boots, fortify archery on my gauntlets, and fortify restoration on my helmet. I had him give my blade absorb health and my shield resist magic. I had him use my only grand soul gem for the resist magic on my shield so I could effectively block most magic attacks. I knew it wouldn't be as effective as a ward but wards took concentration and energy were as the shield is a shield. My bow got a paralyzing enchant but it would require more recharging than my blade or shield. With my gear down I turned over the stuff for my job and bought some supplies before leaving to continue exploring this world.
I hired a carriage to take me to whiterun. The distance between the two holds was technically very far, but the massive Skyrim horse that pulled the carriage did it like it was nothing. It took the carriage at a swift trot and we got to Whiterun after a few hours of bumping down cobbled roads. The roads weren't in great condition as the large distances and the climate made good maintenance nearly impossible.
We only encountered a single group of bandits on the way to the hold and the driver simply tossed them some coins and continued like nothing had happened. When I asked about that he explained that most bandit groups near whiterun are quickly put down unless the skirt the edge and remain of minimal threat to trade. Apparently the jarl Balgruuf the greater was incredibly good at his job and maintained a powerful heavy cavalry.
When we arrived at the city I jumped off the carriage as the driver talked with the local driver. Much like with markarth I entered easily and this time I wasn't met with an attempted murder or some idiot selling human flesh.
I passed by the blacksmith and some inns and houses before getting to the market. I found an alchemy shop and bought some potions for the lady running the place then had myself a meal at the cities biggest inn. I then toured the city seeing a place called Jorrvasker, an overturned boat building. In the heart of the city was a tree called the gildergreen. I passed most of the city and climbed the steps up to the keep. Dragonsreach was a large wood and stone palace built atop the large hill the city was built on.
I entered the building easily as it was open to the public most of the time. I found my way to the court mage and bought a few magic tomes. With my main purpose fulfilled I began to leave but I was stopped by a balding imperial man. When I stopped he spoke. "Greetings sir. As you might know the city of markarth is an allied hold to whiterun and we trade both resources and information. Recently me were made aware of a skilled adventurer taking a carriage in our direction. See, we've been having a problem with an annoying bandit leader who set up in some caves. We captured a large number of his group who were sent to raid a farm. With numbers low in his side we were hoping to pay you to get rid of him and his remaining men."
I nodded as he spoke and when he stopped I asked. "What numbers should I be expecting and what's the pay? I should be able to deal with the easily if their numbers aren't to much."
He nodded at my question and answered. "You should expect ten to fifteen men with nothing past steel armor or weapons. Pay is 1000 septims upon completion and anything you take from them." He handed me some kind of bounty contract which I read through, then signed. He then gave me a map detailing the area and where I needed to go. It was an hour long walk to the caves and I immediately shot the two guards at the mouth. I waited there for a few hours and shot the next three who walked out. I'd dragged the bodies into the bushes and simply waited for them. The fifth came out with his shield and sword ready but still to an arrow to the face.
The leader had caught on by that point and I moved up to the mouth. I was met by four arrows whizzing by me as I fired one back and got a scream. The scream abruptly cut off as the paralysis enchantment froze him. I hung my bow on my bag and grabbed my shield and blade. I walked through the arrows slapping into me ineffectually.
I was met by a mountain of muscle wielding a fuck off massive hammer. I was slammed against the wall as I lashed out with my blade. The edge caught his wrist and the hammer fell from his crippled hand. He dropped the hammer and attempted to punch me with his good hand but I met it with my blade and sliced the hand and arm in half.
An arrow from one of the bandits caught him in the abdomen and made him flinch. The pain of the cut hand and the arrow stopped him where he was and I sliced open his chest. With him out of the way I charged the archers who attempted to fight back. I cut them down much easier than the big man as they only had daggers and swords. I continued deeper into the cave and killed three more bandits. Only one had any skill with a weapon as he barely defended himself with a spear.
At the lowest point in the cave I was met by another massive man who wore armor. He had a shield and axe, and seemed to have some skill with it. Beside him was some idiot mage wearing black robes. As the big boy charged me the mage threw a fireball. I caught the fireball on my shield and it exploded in the bandit leaders face. As he was on the ground I chopped down and my blade passed through his armor into his chest like I was cutting into warm dirt.
The mage attempted two more fireballs and some lightning and ice before I got to him. His hasty ward deflected a swing but didn't hold up against my shield being punched into his face. He slumped against the wall and I pulled my blade across his throat. With everyone here dead I began looting. I found a chest in the same room with around five hundred gold and some potions. The mage had his own table beside it with some interesting books and a greater soul gem.
I took it all and went back out the cave grabbing more stuff including jewelry, gems, an orcish dagger, an unknown stave, and the massive hammer the big man had used.
Back in town I sold most of the loot but kept six of the rings and a necklace. I was going to get them all enchanted as I could comfortably fit six rings in my gauntlets and the necklace could rest safely hanging in my armor. I took the jewelry to Farengar
Secret-Fire the court mage of this hold. The rings of my right hand get fortify destruction and magicka regen. The rings of my left hand get fortify restoration and magicka regen. My necklace gets fortify magicka.
I put on my enchanted jewelry and pay Farengar then leave the keep. I get dinner at an inn close to the city's exit and stay the night. I write this log in bed while listening to the local bard singing Ragnar the Red.
Thus concludes my day five survival log for this world.
