Chapter 38: A Completely Different Resident Evil!
On the electric train heading to the Hive, the veteran fell into deep thought.
Having experienced the fifteen-person difficulty of A Nightmare on Elm Street, he naturally knew the principle that the more people involved, the greater the difficulty, and that horror films featuring supernatural elements were even more challenging. A science-fiction horror film like Resident Evil, which focused on biological threats, should be simple in the veteran's eyes, so why thirteen people?
Marcus spoke up, "You've misunderstood. There are actually only seven of you. The six of us have no interest in participating in your mission."
The veteran spoke with slight nervousness, "Don't you believe that it should have already transmitted the relevant information into your mind? Think about it carefully, and you should be able to..."
Marcus raised his hands, demonstrating his wrists, "Are you talking about the Main God?"
The veteran's eyes narrowed, "You... who exactly are you?"
"Me?" Marcus stood up, "I am Marcus Foster, an independent director of the Umbrella Corporation, fully responsible for this investigation." As Marcus introduced himself, the Main God's protective barrier disappeared.
James, the leader of the assault team arranged by Umbrella Corporation, greeted respectfully, "Hello, Mr. Foster."
Marcus nodded slightly. "How much longer until we can enter the Hive?"
"Soon, at most three minutes," James replied.
The veteran looked at the spot where Marcus had stood up, his eyes filled with shock. He clearly remembered there being a silver-white chair where Marcus had just sat, but it had vanished without a trace.
The main character lowered his voice and asked, "What's going on? Who exactly is that guy?"
The veteran shook his head with a grim expression. "I don't know yet, but don't mess with him!"
The main character loved watching horror movies, and he naturally knew about Resident Evil. "I don't remember that guy being in Resident Evil, right?"
"I know, so let's not mess with him. Let's see what he's up to first," the veteran also lowered his voice.
While the veteran and main character were discussing in hushed tones, assault team leader James was also reporting to Marcus, "Mr. Foster, there's something wrong with the identities of those people behind us. Although they're listed as security personnel in the company records, apart from the veteran, none of the others seem like trained operatives."
James didn't deliberately lower his voice, so the team naturally heard his report.
Marcus chuckled inwardly. This revealed that the Main God's abilities were indeed somewhat lacking. Both had identities injected, but Marcus's identity was flawless and wouldn't arouse any suspicion.
Facing James's report, Marcus waved his hand, "These are minor matters. We need to go in and investigate the cause of Red Queen's malfunction. Just have them follow along; there aren't any other problems."
The team simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief. They were afraid that Marcus, this variable, would cause a major problem, leading to the failure of their entire mission.
"Okay," James replied. "By the way, Mr. Foster, could you please tell us what exactly happened at the Hive? Only after we understand the situation can we better protect your safety."
Marcus considered for a few seconds before speaking, "If there are no accidents, it seems that a research experiment at the Hive leaked, causing biological contamination. After Red Queen detected this, she sealed off the entire Hive according to the company's protocols."
James was taken aback. "Isn't it due to external interference?"
Marcus scoffed. "Red Queen is Umbrella's most advanced artificial intelligence system, and also the most advanced artificial intelligence system in the world. External interference?"
As Marcus finished speaking, the electric train stopped at the terminal station. James immediately told the members of the commando team to get off the train and establish a perimeter before calling out, "Mr. Foster, everything is secure."
Marcus got off the train and then said, "Actually, we are very safe now. Based on Red Queen's handling of the Hive, it should have completely isolated all dangers."
"Hello, Mr. Foster, I'm glad you understand my actions." A childish girl's voice rang out at the electric train station.
Marcus responded, "What's the situation at Hive now?"
"Currently, all 584 researchers and staff at Hive have been infected with the T-virus. According to the central air system, the T-virus in the air has dissipated and can no longer be transmitted directly through the air," Red Queen explained.
Marcus's authority was extremely high, reaching Level 7 within the Umbrella Corporation, equivalent to an independent director on the board. In terms of authority, he even surpassed Wesker's.
"It really is the T-virus!" Marcus sighed. "Was it an accident, or was it intentional?"
"According to the monitoring system records, I discovered it was intentional. Specifically, company employee Spence Parks deliberately released the T-virus," Red Queen stated without concealment.
Marcus glanced at Spence, who was still feigning amnesia, and said, "Mr. Parks, do you have anything else to say?"
"Sorry, I don't remember these things. I don't think I would do those things," Spence feigned ignorance. "If I regain my memory, I should..."
Bang!
Marcus holstered his M1911 pistol.
A bloody hole appeared on Spence's forehead. His eyes were wide open as he fell straight down.
"Ah!"
"Ah!"
...
Several team members screamed.
Alice vaguely remembered being intimate with Spence. Now that Marcus had killed Spence, she angrily questioned, "What are you doing?"
Marcus sneered, "Didn't you see?"
"He betrayed the company, stole the T-virus, and released it. He deserved to die." Marcus said calmly, "Do you think this is the end of it?"
Alice was stunned.
Marcus sighed, "Actually, this is just the beginning. If there are no unexpected circumstances, the T-virus will eventually spread to the whole world and destroy civilization."
Red Queen added, "Please rest assured, Mr. Foster, I will control the spread of the T-virus."
"Are you sure you can control it?" Marcus retorted.
"According to calculations, I have a 62.86% probability of controlling the spread of the T-virus," Red Queen responded.
"Recalculate!" Marcus ordered without hesitation. "Simulate the situation after insects, rodents, birds, etc., are infected with the T-virus," Marcus added.
"Please wait," Red Queen responded.
About ten seconds later, Red Queen gave her answer, "According to Mr. Foster's parameters, after recalculation, the probability of controlling the T-virus drops to 12.75%."
Marcus shook his head helplessly. "Actually, the T-virus has already been spread by insects and rodents."
"Are you sure?" Red Queen asked.
"I'm 100% sure," Marcus replied. "Alright, let us in first. We need to see what's inside the Hive."
